Swimmers of a similar caliber to those in this study that were investigated for the effects of three different lengths of underwater sections during the 2 × 75 m trials of 200 m competitive pace reported higher perceived exertion with extended underwater sections, and even though their lactate levels and heart rates tended to be higher with extended underwater sections, this did not reach statistical significance [ 24 ].
