post-DBS voice and speech changes are an important trend to highlight for patients’ quality of life ( Tripoliti et al., 2011 , 2014 ; Aviles-Olmos et al., 2014 ; Wertheimer et al., 2014 ; Tanaka et al., 2020 ; Gessani et al., 2023 ), but these gradual changes inform neurocomputational understanding of BG only indirectly because the neural substrates of such changes may result both from neuroplastic and neurodegenerative processes.
