Significant reduction in the growth of FEV 1 was also associated with higher exposure to NO 2 , acid vapour and PM 2.5 , with a near-significant association with PM 10 . 36 A recent Chinese study demonstrated that long-term exposure to PM 2.5 had a negative impact on lung function in children aged 7–12 years, with a one unit increase in the average daily dose exposure to PM 2.5 resulting in 14.8 mL decrease in FVC and a 10 mL reduction in FEV 1 . 37 Why there are differences between cohorts for spirometry measures for the common pollutants is unclear especially as the pollutants’ exposures were similar between the cohorts.
