Replicating the findings of Study 1 and consistent with the predictions, when participants believed that the target event was repeatable, they rated character integration higher for guilt-associated events ( M = 3.18, SD = 1.96) than for shame-associated events ( M = 2.57, SD = 1.50) ( F (1, 197) = 3.41, p = 0.066), although the effect was only marginally significant.
