The computation of alpha diversity indices, which quantifies the microbial richness and evenness within each patient group, showed that high and low concentrations of tryptophan revealed a significant difference in Shannon diversity ( p = 0.031), hinting at a distinct community composition between these groups, although the Simpson ( p = 0.090) and inverse Simpson ( p = 0.211) indices did not reach statistical significance ( Figure 1 A).
