COVID-19 patients showed a trend towards reduced BMP6 levels when compared to healthy controls, suggesting that BMP6 is low due to the severe illness of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients, and, accordingly, plasma BMP6 levels of sepsis/septic shock patients with and without COVID-19 did not differ.
