Tissue (mantle) homogenates preserved in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) before DNA extraction did not yield any results (6 out of 6 individuals failed; 0% pass rate; Table 3 ). Further analysis of juvenile clams genotyped as whole ethanol-fixed animals, with and without digestive tissues, exhibited a clear trend related to the size of the specimens (Table 4 ).
