When hospital mortality was studied, stratified into groups according to the percentage of decrease in CRP on the 5th day of antibiotic therapy (decrease of up to 20%; 20 to 40%; 40 to 60%; 60 to 80%; and above 80% in serum levels), there was a clear trend indicating that the greater the decline in CRP, the higher the probability of a decrease in mortality (Fig. 3 ).
