In the mentioned investigations, although LVEFs of patients with AS were found to be lower than those of the control group, the difference did not reach statistical significance.[ 6 18 19 ] Ina study conducted by Sveälv et al ., involving 187 patients with AS, it was shown that diastolic dysfunction was infrequent and mild in patients with AS.[ 20 ] Chen et al . demonstrated the superiority of 2D speckle tracking analysis in revealing LV systolic dysfunction even when diastolic function seemed normal in patients with AS.[ 6 ] Since cardiac functions were evaluated by conventional echocardiography in the present study, diastolic dysfunction may not have been observed in the AS group.
