The percentage of fibers with internal nuclei was also 27% lower in the RFAT group than in the FAT control group, but this difference only showed a marginal trend that did not reach the level of statistical significance ( p = 0.059).
Compared with its matched control group, the scheduled exercise rehabilitation program tested in this study improved both (i) the spatial organization and (ii) the cross-sectional shape of muscle fibers in the RFAT group; it also showed a clear trend to favor the migration of myonuclei towards the cell periphery, the hypertrophy of muscle fibers, and the recovery of the normal oxidative staining pattern.
