Although we observed an increase in tau protein in the exosomes of apneic subjects, it did not reach statistical significance in comparison with healthy non-apneic subjects, possibly due to the high prevalence of increased plasmatic level this protein in our elderly cohort, including in the control group; and indeed this hypothesis was proposed in the literature [ 12 , 54 ].
