A significant association was not established despite a strong trend in favour of the group discharged on statins in one study involving patients with AF-related stroke. 31 More recently, a small prospective cohort study 36 found that the use of statins may help to prevent stroke recurrence and improve functional outcomes in patients with cardioembolic stroke.
