It is unclear why there is a lack of a clear trend in performance for task type 2, but one potential explanation is that task type 2 was difficult enough to warrant less attention toward audience members, but not quite as challenging as task type 3, and thus the chimpanzees’ performance was not as enhanced by the presence of more experimenters.
