The level of NETs in sputum was no different in people either taking or not taking the long-term antibiotic azithromycin ( figure 3b ) but were reduced in those taking DNase ( figure 3c ), correspondingly the level of IL-8 was also reduced in the sputum of these individuals, but this did not reach statistical significance ( supplementary figure 1a ). 13 subjects were also taking hypertonic saline (HTS) as a mucolytic treatment, and this had no significant impact on sputum NETs level ( supplementary table 1 and supplementary figure 1b ).
