Specifically, at 8 h of submergence stress, the POD activity in the root systems of both HL and ZY was significantly increased, reaching its maximum value, and then showed a decreasing trend (Fig. 3 d ) .
The number of conduits exhibited an increasing trend in both HL and ZY at all time points of submergence stress, showing highly significant differences at 8 h and 24 h, with 50% and 15.56% more conduits in HL than ZY (Fig. 2 b).
The SOD activity in the root systems of HL and ZY did not exhibit a significant trend at all time points of submergence stress (Fig. 3 c ) .
This suggests that there may be significant differences in gene expression regulation between the submergence-tolerant and sensitive varieties HL and ZY in response to submergence stress.
