STZ-induced hyperglycemia differentially influences mitochondrial distribution and morphology in the habenulointerpeduncular circuit.

Neither mitochondrial distribution nor the number of mitochondria was significantly affected by hyperglycemia in the LHb ( Figures 2F – H ), although there was a strong trend for a decrease in the number of mitochondria in the STZ group at both 6- and 12-week endpoints (VEH 6-week = 1.00 ± 0.21, STZ 6-week = 0.68 ± 0.22, p = 0.67; VEH 12-week = 1.00 ± 0.16, STZ 12-week = 0.64 ± 0.19, p = 0.59; treatment X time: F (1,16) = 0.009, p = 0.92; effect of treatment: F (1,16) = 2.86, p = 0.1; effect of time: F (1,16) = 0.009, p = 0.92).
