Despite the rhetoric that the signature is hugely significant, the reality is that consent should be a process with two-way dialogue, as above, and many UK doctors would also be surprised at the actual GMC wording regarding the consent form [ 7 ]. ‘Consent forms can be a helpful prompt to share key information, as well as a standard way to record a decision that can make regular review easier.
