Although reductions in infarct size and serum troponin I levels did not reach statistical significance, there was a trend toward reduced infarct size, and the levels of other serum markers, such as myeloperoxidase (MPO), matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), were significantly decreased.
