Consistent with the literature, we observed that strains co-expressing the biosensor and activity-enhanced mutants D70E, V72D, and L170D all showed a trend of increased fluorescence intensity compared to the strain co-expressing the biosensor and the wild-type WspR, although the increase in fluorescence intensity of the strain expressing the mutant L170D was not statistically significant ( Figure 3D ) ( Huangyutitham et al., 2013 ).
