While this difference did not reach statistical significance, it did trend in that direction and thus may provide at least partial support for the prediction that if inner speech elicits a corollary discharge with detailed auditory properties, then N1 amplitude should be reduced in Mismatch compared with Passive, as there is presumably a greater degree of overlap in the auditory properties between /BA/ and /BI/ in the Mismatch condition than between /BA/ and nothing in the Passive condition ( Patel, 2022 ).
