Previous evidence from network meta-analyses (NMA) of randomized controlled trials (RCT) [ 19 , 20 ] of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients has shown increases in all-cause mortality (between 76% and 89%) in those treated with CBPBs compared to those treated with NCBPBs and sevelamer, although this did not reach statistical significance with lanthanum.
