Large-scale GWASs for regional cortical surface area and thickness have identified 369 genome-wide nominally significant loci related to cortical structures [ 18 ]. 26% of the variation in average cortical thickness and 34% of the variation in total surface area can be explained by common single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) [ 18 ].
