Valine had previously been shown to be negatively associated with depressive symptoms, and approached significance with the p-factor [ 14 ], and contactin-1 has been shown to be associated with depression phenotypes in mice [ 47 , 48 ] and older adults from the UK Biobank [ 13 ], as well as the previously mentioned psychiatric and neurodegenerative associations.
