Discussion In this retrospective study analysing combined data from five population-level datasets, we found the urban divide between slum and non-slum households is correlated with HIV inequalities, with a significant trend towards the urban slum (ie, poor) suffering higher HIV prevalence rates compared with their urban non-slum (ie, non-poor) counterparts.
