The present study found that although URC demonstrated a slightly better 1-year OS and DFS than MLRC, the differences did not reach statistical significance. These results are consistent with the findings of Huang et al., who reported that while mid–lower rectal cancers tend to have worse outcomes, survival differences are more pronounced over longer follow-up periods rather than within the first year [ 4 ].
