The correlation of counts of small particles and clinically assessed presence of AC pigment did not reach statistical significance, (adjusted correlation between presence of pigment and counts for cells ≤2 pixels in inactive eyes = 17.4, 95% CI −4.2 to 39.5, p = 0.1), but there was evidence of some diagnostic utility with the greatest area under the curve achieved using a small particle threshold of less than 3 pixels in size (Fig. 3 ).
