Although the rate of major bleeding was lower in the group of dabigatran than in the warfarin group, the association of dabigatran and a reduction risk of major bleeding did not reach statistical significance after multivariate adjustment, consistent with previous reports suggesting that dabigatran may carry a similar risk of extracranial bleeding in the older patients to warfarin [ 52 ].
