Although there was no significant difference among different pea cultivars for LER and LERN, there was a clear trend that the oldest pea cultivar Century had lower LER and higher LERN than all other cultivars, suggesting there is better use of land due to intercropping with newer cultivars but new cultivars are not capturing as much N as the oldest one (Fig. 4 b).
