Upon examining the exact correlation between the extent of microbial adhesion and the membrane roughness values for each strain individually, a clear trend in microbial adhesion increase with increases in roughness was observed; the correlation was the most robust for P. gingivalis (r 2 = 0.98), followed by S. mutans (r 2 = 0.55), and less so for C. albicans (r 2 = 0.23) ( Figure 4 a–c).
