Based on the statistical χ 2 test (see Table 5 ), there is no statistically significant difference among the two test groups as per the intensity of basal membrane staining (χ 2 = 4.488, Degrees of Freedom = 4, p -value = 0.544, and Cramer’s V = 0.452), while Figure 4 illustrates that the majority of samples, irrespective of the test group, showed a negative intensity for the basal membrane staining, an element quite significant with regards to the possible role and impact of carbonylation in the etiopathogenesis of periodontal disease.
