When SHR was a nominal variable, patients in higher quartiles of SHR were significantly associated with a higher risk of in-hospital death compared with those in the lowest quartile in three established Cox proportional risk models: unadjusted model 1 [HR, 2.502 (95% CI 1.593, 3.930), P < 0.0001], adjusted model 2 [HR, 2.284 (95% CI 1.447, 3.605), P < 0.001] and adjusted model 3 [HR, 2.085 (95% CI 1.291, 3.366), P = 0.003] and showed a trend toward increasing with SHR (Table 3 ; Fig. 3 A).
