Particularly in the forest and hilly areas, which is much higher than what was found in the present study.[ 28 ] The prevalence of scrub typhus in this study was 12.09% compared to other studies where it varies from 13 to 63%.[ 29 30 31 ] There is a male preponderance in the positive cases, which can be because men are more frequently outside the home, working in fields where they are more prone to the bite of the vector trombiculid mite.[ 1 23 32 ] Studies by other authors also showed a trend of increased infections in females, especially in rural areas because of the migration of males into cities for work and the involvement of females in agricultural work and outdoor activities in rural areas.[ 13 14 21 ] The age distribution of diagnosed cases showed the middle-aged group was more commonly infected. 12.67% of cases are within the age group of 21–30 years and the prevalence was gradually increasing with age, i.e. 14.76% and 14.34% in 31–40 years and 41–50 years age groups, respectively, and 15.97% in 51–60 years age group.
