3.4.1 Gender differences In the gender subgroup analysis ( Figure 5 ), depression was associated with a significantly higher mortality risk in female older adult hypertensive patients (HR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.28–1.86, p < 0.05), whereas the risk increase in male patients was smaller and did not reach statistical significance (HR = 1.15, 95% CI: 0.98–1.33, p > 0.05).
