For the halogen-substituted indoles ( 2e – 2h ), a clear trend in deuterium incorporation at C6 was observed with a gradual decline in the reactivity of the C–H bond, attributable to a combination of steric-electronic factors from the halogen atom, especially noticeable for 2g , wherein a corresponding decrease in H/D exchange was observed at C2.
