Accordingly, control PASMCs exposed to recombinant WFDC2 showed a trend toward increased expression levels of FOXM1 , BIRC5 (also called Survivin), and IL1 β ( Supplemental Figure S3 ), all of which are critically involved in pulmonary vascular remodeling in PAH. 27 , 28 , 29 In addition, although not statistically significant, exposure of control PASMCs to the prohypertensive factors TNF-α or PDGF-BB increased expression of WFDC2 ( Supplemental Figure S3 ).
