For negative affect, participants exposed to MS reported slightly higher levels ( M =2.03, SD =0.68) than those in the dental pain condition ( M =1.87, SD =0.63), but the difference did not reach statistical significance, F (1, 206)=3.19, p =0.076, η p 2 =0.02.
