No statistically significant differences in brain atrophy in different regions were found when comparing patients with the m.3243 A > G variant to those with other genetic causes. Brain atrophy progression was greatest in the left temporal lobe and the right parietal lobe (mean GCA change: 0.062/year for the temporal and 0.005/year for the parietal lobe) but did not reach statistical significance in the whole sample ( N = 15).
