Allogeneic stem cell transplantation in first complete remission (18 of the patients) improved the 5-year event-free survival (68% versus 18%, p < 0.01); the 5-year cumulative incidence of relapse was also decreased (13% versus 81%, p < 0.01), whereas the difference in overall survival did not reach statistical significance (68% versus 54%).
