On a co-isogenic FVB/NJ (FVB) inbred strain background, frameshift mutations with a premature termination codon (PTC) earlier in the open reading frame showed a trend toward less severe physical abnormalities ( Deshpande et al. 2020 ), although the number of samples per variant was limited and potential mechanism was unclear.
