We confirmed a significant trend regarding the X/Y system: both X and Y chromosomes had significantly younger adjacencies than the rest of the genome in all of the tested mammals and Diptera (chromosome X: n = 27, 23 mammals and 4 Diptera; chromosome Y: n = 12, 11 mammals and 1 Diptera), except Caenorhabditis elegans , where no differences could be detected between the X chromosome and the autosomes.
