Warnecke and colleagues identified higher concentrations of inflammatory cytokines, IL-13 and IL-9, in patients with complete hearing loss following CI surgery when compared to patients with some residual hearing following surgery, although the difference in IL-9 did not reach statistical significance [ 25 ].
