However, one cohort study actually identified the use of ASA as risk factor for stroke in patients with HF, possibly due to a deleterious effect on cardiac function. 2 Since our study only evaluated the short-term effects of ASA treatment, longer-term effects of ASA or other anti-thrombotics should be studied in Chagas disease before firm recommendations can be made. Patients with Chagasic cardiomyopathy presented with a numerically higher proportion of HITS when compared to non-Chagasic patients, which despite agreeing with another study did not reach statistical significance. 10 Moreover, in the multivariate analysis, Chagas disease was not an independent risk factor for HITS in the first TCD.
