Secondary outcomes Three studies comparing trauma patients with mild hypocalcemia to those with normocalcemia demonstrated that patients with hypocalcemia had a higher mortality rate; however, the result did not reach statistical significance (OR 2.25; 95% CI 0.72 to 7.05; I 2 =23%; p=0.16)( figure 4 ).
