When these patterns are compared with global maps of healthcare expenditure and insurance coverage ( Figures 2 and 3 ), a clear trend emerges: countries with higher medical expenditure and broader access to healthcare exhibit higher prevalence of autoimmune diseases [ 31 , 32 ].
