After we controlled for age groups, sex, smoking status, drinking status, education, and comorbidities, the estimates indicated that the per capita annual medial cost and healthcare utilization showed an increasing trend in people with more advanced CKD stages.

For healthcare utilization conditions, outpatient visit times and LOS were estimated accordingly; the outpatient visit times increased with the CKD severity, with people at G4 and G5 estimated to have obviously longer LOS compared with G1–G3, namely 8.64 and 13.22 days versus 1.96, 2.56, and 4.27 days. Discussion The findings described a clear trend of increasing medical costs and economic burden in our study specifically within a cohort of patients with CKD and T2DM between 2017 and 2020.
