The knowledge score of the participants in the intervention group was increased from t0 to t1 (mean difference = − 4.49; 95% CI = − 5.28, − 3.71; p < 0.001), followed by a reduction in the score from t1 to t2 (mean difference = 1.19; 95% CI = 0.69, 1.70; p < 0.001) and from t2 to t3, although it did not reach statistical significance in the later follow-up (mean difference = 0.23; 95% CI = − 0.25, 0.71; p > 0.95).
