Fourth, to evaluate whether the effect of DNA methylation on migraine is mediated through gene expression, we restricted the analysis to CpG sites that showed a significant causal association with migraine or its subtypes in the mQTL–MR analyses (used as exposures), and genes with nominally significant causal effects on migraine in the eQTL–MR analyses (used as mediators).
