55 One birth cohort study in the United States showed a trend of increasing preeclampsia risk with higher mercury levels in red blood cells (risk ratio, 1.15 [95% CI, 0.98–1.36]). 59 One prospective cohort study in Egypt found a higher risk of HDP in dental staff with higher urinary mercury levels due to dental amalgams as compared with dental employees with lower urinary mercury levels. 11 In contrast, a prospective cohort study in Canada demonstrated a lack of association between the first‐ and third‐trimester blood mercury levels and HDP. 12 One reason for the different findings may be the timing of blood mercury measurements.
