Lower acuity patients who had received an ESI of 3–5 in triage, boarded significantly less time than higher acuity ESI 2 patients (131 minutes less for ESI 3, 364 minutes less for ESI 4–5; 95% CI 153–08; P < .001 and 95% CI −441, −286; P < .001, respectively), and highest acuity ESI 1 patients boarded 124 minutes longer than ESI 2 patients, although this comparison did not reach statistical significance (95% CI −27, 275; P = .11).
