A study by Ponce-Torres et al showed that the incidence of periodontal infections in AL could be as high as 40% during induction therapy. 12 Periodontal infections increase the risk of local and systemic infections. The primary endpoint for the study was oral mucositis, which was numerically higher in the comprehensive group than in the standard protocol group but did not reach statistical significance.
